Just Apply: Gendered language and its broader effects
This webcast took place on International Women’s Day, with a focus on how gendered language can adversely affect women’s progression not only in terms of applying for new roles, but for broader aspects of their career development such as training courses, participation in internal or external committees, and opportunities outside of the workplace.
The webcast examines the long-term effects of gendered language can have on women's careers, and how it may result in women not identifying themselves as fit for opportunities, despite being aptly qualified. The panel will also investigate how women might overcome these biases and ‘Just Apply’ – to recognise, as receivers of gender-biased communications, that these are often flawed and not let this adversely affect their decision.
