Manchester Metropolitan University | Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader

 

Pamela is a Senior Lecturer and the Programme Leader for the International Hospitality Business Management Programme at Manchester Metropolitan University. With 25 years of experience in the Hospitality and Travel industry, Pamela has worked in prestigious 4 and 5-star hotels across Glasgow, London, Ireland, the Seychelles, and Abu Dhabi. Her career has spanned various hotel departments, including Operations and Sales and Marketing, where she gained extensive expertise. Pamela has successfully led teams of varying sizes and served as a mentor in programmes with Marriott, Hilton, and Champneys. In her final two years in the industry, she worked as a client manager for a travel management company, which deepened her understanding of the tourism and travel sectors.

Santander Consumer Finance | Business Development Manager

 

James is an experienced professional in business and sales. With over 20 years success in operations, employee development and business growth. He is currently a Regional Manager for Santander Consumer Finance and is responsible for consulting and relationship management in the automotive and leisure industry. 

James grew up on a farm in Lancashire, before moving to University and attaining a position with Enterprise Holdings on a Graduate Management Trainee programme. During this time in his career, he climbed the promotion ladder and was responsible for multiple sites and teams across a large geographical area. This involved multiple Networking events, both hosted and attended, to build both contacts and to also learn about other industries and how they could collaborate together.

He also acquired a hospitality business and ran this successfully, before selling the business 8 years later.

James has done multiple charity fundraisers, including the '3 Peaks Challenge' and is still an active Mentor to previous employees. He has been involved in Graduate recruitment and been an advisor for Enactus. 

James' biggest passion is to leave a positive and lasting impression on people he works alongside, aswell as business partners and customers.

Adrian is the Regional Fundraising Manager at the British Heart Foundation. With 14 years of experience in the charity and income generation, Adrian has won multi-million pound contracts with Cadbury, Asda, Sainsburys, Red Bull and many more. His career has spanned over the public, private and Third sectors, with a background in marketing and brand expansion. Adrian has led teams across England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland to secure high value contracts and build on professional relationship management through networking and authenticity.

Our expert panel will look at key networking strategies such as:

 

  • Setting clear goals: determine what you want to achieve through networking, such as gaining industry insights, building partnerships etc.
  • Building genuine connections: focus on quality over quantity.
  • The role of on-line platforms:  LinkedIn and industry-specific forums are great for expanding your network.
  • Attending Events: whether virtual or in-person, industry events, conferences, and seminars offer valuable networking opportunities.
  • Following up:  after initial contact, follow up with new connections to maintain relationships.
  • Offering value:  networking is a two-way street. Offer your expertise, share resources, or introduce contacts who may benefit each other.
  • Being consistent: networking is ongoing and needs regular dedicated time.
