Overview

This is a joint event with the Chartered Banker Institute, MMU and ICAEW North West

New technology is changing how we do our banking, and the pandemic appears to have accelerated this change.  UK banks have closed almost half of the branches in the last 20 years, and the use of cash has declined rapidly.

Some commentators suggest that the future lies with new banks such as Starling and Monzo.  They also point to the rise of new business models such as Klarna, Paypal and cryptocurrency.

Does this mean that banks that used to be too big to fail have become too old-fashioned to survive? Or will they adapt and evolve to meet our future banking needs?

Panellists

Fliss Berridge

Fliss Berridge

Ordo | Director and Co-founder

Fliss started out as a professional musician (trombone...the neighbours loved it!) and after several years decided she wanted a job where she would not have to worry about money, so went to law school in the evenings and re-trained to become a lawyer.

20 or so years on, she has now co-founded a FinTech, Ordo, that makes getting paid easy. And there is a certain harmony to that.

Ordo puts people in control of their finances, with instant money transfer and real time notifications, it means everyone knows where they are with their money....which is exactly how it should be - and it needn't be hard or expensive - so Ordo is easy to use and low cost.
